UN Human Rights Council Concludes its Fourteenth Session

June 2010 - Geneva

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has concluded its fourteenth regular session and released a summary of the meetings. The session, presided over by Ambassador Alex Van Meeuwen of Belgium, was held from 31 May to 18 June 2010 in Geneva. Among the events of the session were the appointment of Heiner Bielefeldt as Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief.  The Council extended the mandate of this Special Rapporteur for "a further period of three years," adding language to the mandate re-emphasizing condemnation of "all forms of intolerance and discrimination based on religion or belief, as well as violations of the freedom of thought, conscience, religion or belief."
